Assessment of Oral Hygiene Practices and the Factors Influencing Selection of Tooth and Interdental-Cleaning Devises: A Cross Sectional Survey of Pakistani Adults

Objective: The current study aimed at determining and characterizing the oral hygiene habits behaviors of a subset Pakistani population seeking dental care private hospital in Karachi. Study Design: Cross-sectional survey. Place Duration Study: was conducted department Oral Medicine Diagnosis Dental Out-Patient-Department Ziauddin University Karachi from January 2022 to July 2022. Methodology: A total 530 adult males females who visited Out-patient-department (OPD) were recruited using non-probability consecutive sampling, as representative sample population. After obtaining an informed consent, interviews structured questionnaire conducted. Data analysis performed with SPSS version 22. Results: majority subjects interviewed (58.3%) use toothbrush, while 5.8% miswak, 23.2% both toothbrush 5.5% their fingers clean teeth. There no significant difference selection device between genders, age groups, level education, social economic status. To interdental areas, participants toothpicks (39.6%), 13.4% floss, 4.5% brush 34.1% none. 14.3% reported that they mouth-rinse. Conclusion: An assessment practices serves guide for designing effective health education programs fulfils periodontal requirements target Efforts should be made promote correct brushing techniques timings implement usage cleaning aids.
